ok for the price : Pioneer TS-G6843R 6 x 8 In. 2-Way Speaker with 180 Watts Max. Power
I purchased a set of these to go along with a set of Pioneer TS-G1643R 6.5" for front door speakers. For the money, they actually sound very nice. Straight out of the box, they actually don't sound quite as good as a 12-year old pair of Boston Acoustics 5.25's that I previously had installed, removed and reinstalled in 3 different vehicles. However, after some fine tuning with the deck, I was able to pull some very good sound out of these. Although these speakers are technically 6x8", they are made to fit in most 5x7" openings, such as in our 1999 Ford Escort.
Being only 2-way speakers, the highs sound decent but aren't overly superior, mid's are rather strong and bass is a little more disappointing than expected. However, adding a subwoofer to the vehicle completely negates any shortcomings on this behalf. Power handling is commendable, as very subtle distortion is noted at reasonably high volumes. As with most coaxials, bass distorts significantly quicker than the tweeter as volume grows. The deck used is pushing a clean 22 watts RMS.
Compared to many higher end speakers (Kicker, Boston Acoustics, Polk) available, they do fall just a little short. However, at 1/2 to 1/3 the price of the aforementioned, you can't really go wrong with these at this price point. Some tuning will be in order from your deck once they are installed, but once honed in they will purr beautifully.
One final note - these 6X8" speakers DO NOT include grilles. Although the listing has mentioned them as being included, they are NOT. Please see the attached picture to find out exactly what comes in the box. Nothing else, nothing more.
